Shark cartilage capsules recalled due to Salmonella risk
Vitamins could result in contamination, injury

On May 16, 2007, NBTY, Inc. announced a recall of three lots of Shark Cartilage Capsules after it was discovered they could be contaminated with Salmonella, a bacteria that could cause serious personal injury or even death. The recalled products were manufactured in 2004 and were distributed to customers through mail and internet orders, drug stores, and mass merchandise stores like Target.
The possible Salmonella contamination was discovered during routine testing of the product, which was sold under such labels as:
- Puritan’s Pride brand Shark Cartilage Capsules
- Good and Natural Brand Shark Cartilage Capsules
- Nature’s Bounty brand Shark Cartilage Capsules
- Natural Wealth brand Shark Cartilage Capsules
- Physiologics brand Shark Cartilage Capsules
- Rexall Sundown brand Shark Cartilage Capsules
- Vitamin World brand Shark Cartilage Capsules
