2,000 Thermador cooktops recalled because of fire hazard

On June 7, 2007, BSH Home Appliances Corp. announced a recall of about 2,000 Thermador Brand Ceramic Cooktops because the appliance can come on by itself, creating a fire hazard.

The recalled cooktops have electric and induction heating elements with black ceramic glass surfaces. Recalled models have model numbers CIT302DS/01 and CIT362DS/01 with date codes between 8606 and 8612. Model numbers and dates are found on the underside of the cooktop.

Appliance and specialty stores nationwide sold the recalled cooktops from October 2006 to March 2007 for between $1,800 and $2,200.

Consumers are advised to disconnect the cooktop at the circuit breaker when not using it.
