Counterfeit batteries in flashlights can overheat

On July 17, 2007, Sportsman’s Warehouse announced a recall of about 4,400 Xenon Aluminum Flashlights because the batteries in the product can overheat and catch fire, burning users. The batteries, determined to be counterfeit, have led to two reports of overheating and ignition of the flashlights and one report of a customer receiving burns to his hands.

The recalled flashlights are black High Intensity Xenon Aluminum Flashlights with the Sportsman’s Warehouse logo printed on the handle. They were packaged with two, three, or four counterfeit batteries labeled as “Panasonic CR123A Industrial Lithium.”

The Item Numbers for the recalled flashlight batteries are:

  • For 6-volt flashlights: Item No. 1139422
  • For 9-volt flashlights: Item No. 1139423
  • For 12-volt flashlights: Item No. 1139424

Sportsman’s Warehouse flashlights were sold nationwide from October 2006 to May 2007 for $30 to $40.

Customers are advised to immediately remove the batteries from the flashlights and return them to any Sportsman’s Warehouse store for a refund or store credit.
