On August 2, 2007, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of nearly one million Fisher-Price toys sold under various licensed character brands, including Sesame Street’s Elmo, Dora the Explorer, and Nick Jr’s Go Diego Go because the toys contained lead paint. Lead poisoning is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause serious adverse health effects.

The toys were manufactured in China between April 19, 2007 and July 6, 2007. The toys have a date code between 109-7LF and 187-7LF. The exact models with model numbers are listed above. Recalled Fisher-Price toys were sold nationwide between May 2007 and August 2007 for between $5 and $40.

Recalled toys should be taken from children immediately to avoid the possibility of children mouthing toys or pieces of toy sets that contain lead in surface paint. Consumers should either throw away the recalled Fisher-Price toys or contact Fisher-Price to receive a voucher for a replacement toy.

At the time this blog post was written, Fisher-Price’s Web page containing recall information was clogged with site traffic and could not be accessed. The page may also be accessed via a yellow link near the bottom of the left-side navigation of the Fisher-Price home page entitled “Recall Information”. However, due to the high volume of site traffic, it may be more beneficial to call Fisher-Price at 1-800-916-4498.
