Recalled Priddy teether books pose choking hazard
Small pieces can detach, posing serious threat to children
On August 23, 2007, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled about 35,000 Priddy ‘Trucks’ Shaker Teether Books because small pieces of the teether can break off, posing a choking hazard to young children.
The recalled teether books are products of St. Martin’s Press. The company has received two reports of small pieces breaking off the shaker teether books.
The recalled cloth teether book has the word “trucks” with a picture of a yellow dump truck on the front cover. On the top of the book is a rattle with a green teether attached on the right side of the rattle and an orange teether attached to the left side of the rattle.
The “trucks” teether book was sold at Barnes & Noble and other bookstores and retailers nationwide between January 2006 and June 2007 for about $7. The teether books are products of China.
The CPSC is instructing consumers to take the toys away from children immediately and to contact St. Martin’s Press for further instructions. The company’s phone number is 1-800-347-9411, and its Web site is priddybooks.com.
