Honeywell recalls select Apex-brand security systems

Systems with XICOR chips may fail to warn of fire, intrusion

09/09/07

On September 6, 2007, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of about 1,000 Apex-brand security systems made by Honeywell International because the systems operate with a faulty chip that could fail to warn of fire and intrusion. The XICOR memory chip could lose programmed information in the event of a power outage, creating the possibility for failed warning. Honeywell has received three reports of the product failing to work during installation.

The recall involves security systems sold under the “Apex” brand. The Destiny 6100 and the Destiny 6100AN home security system control panels with XICOR memory chips are involved in the recall. Additionally, the units have date codes between K015 and K057.

The recalled Apex security systems were sold nationwide between January 2007 and May 2007 for between $280 and $325.

Honeywell is contacting its customers directly concerning this recall; however, consumers may also call Honeywell at 1-800-573-0154 for more information.
