Children’s trailer bicycle poses fall hazard

On September 18, 2007, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall on Novara Afterburner Trailer Bicycles distributed by Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) due to a product defect that could cause a potential fall hazard to children. Trailer bicycles are designed to attach to adult bicycles to assist children to learn how to ride.
Approximately 5,200 Novara Afterburner Trailer Bicycles are affected by this recall. In affected models, the children’s single-wheel trailer bicycle can become detached from adult bicycles. This poses a fall hazard to children because the children’s single-wheel trailer bicycle can not be operated on its own.
Recalled Novara Afterburner Trailer Bicycles were sold in REI stores nationwide from February 2007 through June 2007 for approximately $160.00.
CPSC urges consumers to immediately stop using the children’s bicycle trailer. Concerned consumers may contact REI customer service at 1-800-426-4840 between 4am and 11pm PT, seven days a week or visit rei.com for a free replacement part, full refund or credit.
