Recalls on Various Ducati and Kawasaki Motorcycles Due to Product Defects
Related Pages:
Two recalls were issued during the second week of October, 2007, for various Ducati and Kawasaki motorcycles due to product defects in either the battery or the muffler.
On the 2008 Ducati Hypermotard, the battery can move from side to side inside the fuel tank mounting compartment, causing damage to the main wiring harness at the battery terminal. This could cause an electrical short which could lead to the engine shutting off. Engine stoppage increases risk of crash, which could result in serious personal injury.
Owners of 2008 Ducati Hypermotards can return their motorcycles to the dealers to install a battery mounting bracket and two double lock Velcro strips on the bottom of the battery. An owner notification schedule has not yet been provided by the manufacturer. Concerned owners may contact Ducati Motorcycles at 1-408-253-0499.
On 2002 to 2007 model Kawasaki KL650A and 2008 Kawasaki KL650E motorcycles, the muffler mounting bolts are insufficiently tightened, which could cause the bolts to become loose. If the bolts are loosened, the muffler could separate from the bike and cause a motorcycle accident.
Owners of 2002-2007 Kawasaki KL650A and 2008 Kawasaki KL650E models may take their motorcycle to dealers, who will tighten the two muffler mounting bolts to the proper torque. This Kawasaki motorcycle recall is expected to begin around October 22, 2007. Owners can contact Kawasaki at 1-866-802-9381.
Consumers with concerns about recalled motorcycles can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov for additional information.
