Bassettbaby Recalls Cribs Due to Possible Entrapment Hazard

Bolts could come loose, creating a gap

On November 8, 2007, Bassettbaby recalled about 8,900 Wendy Bellissimo Collection Convertible Cribs because the cribs could pose an entrapment and strangulation hazard.

The cribs, which were manufactured in China by the Goodbaby Child Products Company, Ltd., have bolts connecting the top corners of the crib that could come loose, creating a gap between the padding and the railing. There have been 85 reports of loosening bolts, as well as one report of an infant getting his hand stuck between the railings.

The Bassettbaby crib recall includes model numbers 5945-0521 and 5545-0521, in honey and cherry finishes. The recalled cribs will have one of the following purchase order numbers at the bottom rail of the headboard:

  • 272903 (honey);
  • 272904 (honey);
  • 273904 (honey);
  • 276728 (honey);
  • 276729 (honey);
  • 291081 (honey);
  • 323975 (honey);
  • 324472 (honey);
  • 320318 (honey);
  • 323976 (honey);
  • 332883 (honey);
  • 365620 (honey);
  • 368466 (honey);
  • 338535 (cherry);
  • 338537 (cherry); and
  • 332884 (cherry).

No other Wendy Bellissimo Collection Convertible Cribs are included in the recall. The cribs were sold at Babies R Us stores from July 2005 through October 2007 for about $500.

Consumers are advised to stop using the cribs immediately, and contact Bassettbaby at 1-888-897-4689 for a free repair kit.
