One report of death

11/16/07

On November 16, 2007, Jetmax International Ltd. of Irving, Texas, recalled children’s wooden storage racks due to risks of entrapment and suffocation.

Approximately 36,000 storage units are affected. The children’s wooden storage racks have three levels with nine removable canvas totes. There are wooden handles on each side of the racks.

The boy’s storage rack comes in natural color wood with red, yellow, green, and navy canvas totes. The girl’s storage rack comes in white color wood with pink, yellow, lime, and purple canvas totes.

The recalled children’s wooden storage racks were made in China and sold at Wal-Mart under the brand “Home Trend Kid 9 Canvas Bin Boy’s and Girl’s Organizers” between August 2004 and July 2005 for around $40. Recalled racks were also sold at Ollie’s stores nationwide from July 2006 through June 2007 for $40.

The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) received one report of an 8-month-old boy who died from asphyxiation after the storage rack fell over him. The top rail of a Jetmax storage rack landed on the infant’s neck.

Consumers should stop use of the recalled storage racks. Consumers may contact Jetmax International at 1-800-689-2169 between 9am and 5pm CT, visit www.jlwoodenmfg.com or email info@jlwoodenmfg.com to receive a free repair kit that will add stability to the base.
