Liberty Apparel recalls Jewel brand sweatshirts
On December 21, 2007, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of some 12,000 “Jewel” brand hooded sweatshirts because the sweatshirts have a drawstring through the hood, which could pose a strangulation hazard to young children.
The recalled Jewel brand hooded sweatshirts, produced by Liberty Apparel Co. Inc., have different designs on the front, and were sold in two styles. The “Big Heart” zip-up sleeve hoodie has a style number #J2173k/sk and was sold in black, light pink, and purple. The “Small Stars” long sleeve hoodie has a style number #J2174k/sk and was sold in green, khaki, navy, and orange.
Both styles were sold in small, medium, large, and extra-large sizes. The recalled hooded sweatshirts were sold at Marshalls and other stores nationwide between August 2007 and November 2007 for about $10.
The CPSC recommends consumers remove the drawstrings to eliminate the hazard or to return the item to either the place of purchase or to Liberty Apparel for a full refund. Consumers may call Liberty Apparel collect at 1-212-768-3030.
