Sun Rich Brand and A&P Brand Cut Cantaloupe Products recalled due to potential Salmonella contamination

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced a recall for Sun Rich Brand and A&P Brand Cut Cantaloupe products, distributed in Quebec and Ontario, because of a potential Salmonella contamination. Consumption of products containing Salmonella can lead to salmonellosis, which can cause serious, and even deadly infections, especially in those who have weakened immune systems, such as the elderly.

Symptoms of salmonellosis include vomiting, nausea, high fever, severe headache, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Severe arthritis is a long-term complication associated with salmonellosis as well.

Products included in the recall include:

  • Sun Rich Fruit Tray, 1.82 kg, 64 oz, UPC 0 60243 01100 3, Best Before Date: 2008-Mar-26
  • Sun Rich Cantaloupe Chunks, 511 g, 18 oz, UPC 0 60243 01056 3, Best Before Date: 2008-Mar-26
  • Sun Rich Mixed Melon, 511 g, 18 oz, UPC 0 60243 01059 4, Best Before Date: 2008-Mar-26
  • A & P Fruit Salad, 3.63 kg, 8 lbs, UPC 0 60243 00573 6, Best Before Date: 2008-Apr-08
