Carbon Monoxide poisoning risk prompts recall of Weil-Mclain Gas Boilers

A potential leak in the vent piping can cause carbon monoxide leak

05/12/08

On May 6, 2008, Weil-McLain recalled about 1,800 Williamson-Thermoflo GWS and GWI Gas Boilers and about 32,000 Weil-McLain CGs and CGi Gas Boilers because of a possibility for a carbon monoxide (CO) leak. If there is a leak in the gas boilers’ bent piping, a leak can occur, posing a carbon monoxide poisoning risk.

Included in the recall are cast iron, gas-fired boilers used for space heating. The following are model names and serial numbers included in the recall:

  • Serial Numbers from CP 5160092 through CP 5663040 have model names GWS-127 and GWS-158
  • Serial Numbers from CP 4363986 through CP 5699844 have model names GWI-063, GWI-095, GWI-127 and GWI-158
  • Serial Numbers from CP 5071501 through CP 5694976 have model names CGs-3, CGs-4, CGs-5, and CGs-6
  • Serial Numbers from CP 4134351 through CP 5698635 have model names CGi-3, CGi-5, and CGi-6 Series 2

Model names and serial numbers are located on separate labels on the outside of the left panel.

Plumbing and heating wholesale distributors sold the recalled Williamson-Thermoflo Gas Boilers to plumbers and contractors nationwide from October 2001 through December 2007 for between $1,500 and $2,700.
