Cardinal Health recalls alcohol-free mouthwash due to consumer infection risk

Recalled mouthwash tested positive for Burkholderia cepacia

On May 2, 2008, Hydrox Labs recalled Cardinal Health alcohol-free mouthwash after it tested positive for Burkholderia cepacia (B. cepacia), a known cause of infections in hospitalized patients. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed that at least one hospital patient has become ill from B. cepacia after use of the recalled mouthwash.

The recalled Cardinal Health mouthwash was distributed to hospitals, medical centers, and long-term care facilities nationwide.

The Cardinal Health product included in the recall is 4 ounce packages of Cardinal Health Alcohol-Free Mouthwash with reorder number AG-210 and product lot number 26228. The product lot number can be found on the side of the bottle.

Consumers who own a package of recalled Cardinal Health alcohol-free mouthwash should stop using the product and contact Cardinal Health at 800-292-9332 for instructions.
