Diprivan is an injectable anesthetic used to provoke loss of consciousness before and during surgery. It is sometimes used in intensive care patients to help the patients withstand stress of being in an intensive care unit.

Patients who have taken Diprivan may feel drowsy, tired, or weak within the first 24 hours of receiving it.

Common side effects observed in Diprivan patients are:

  • shivering or trembling
  • vision problems
  • dizziness
  • lightheadedness
  • feeling faint
  • drowsiness
  • headache
  • mood or mental changes
  • mind nausea
  • vomiting
  • nightmares

Patients should immediately contact their doctors if they experience any of the following side effects within 2 weeks of taking Diprivan:

  • abdominal or stomach pain
  • back or leg pain
  • black or bloody vomit
  • fever
  • severe headache
  • increase or decrease in amount of urine
  • loss of appetite
  • severe nausea
  • pale skin
  • unusual tiredness or weakness
  • weakness of wrist and fingers
  • unusual weight loss
  • yellow eyes or skin
