Bayer is one of the world’s largest healthcare companies, with 350 individual operating companies and manufacturing plants in almost every country of the world. Bayer HealthCare covers the areas of animal health, genetically produced medicines, over-the-counter products, diagnostic products and prescription drugs. Bayer CropScience produces insecticides, herbicides, fungicides and seed treatments. Bayer MaterialScience manufactures plastics and polymers used in many millions of consumer and industrial products and other applications.

On November 5, 2007, Bayer AG, the manufacturer of Trasylol, suspended the sale of the antibleeding drug from the U.S. market. The suspension came amid findings from a Canadian clinical trial that appeared to link Trasylol to increases risk of death as compared to the risk from the other drugs.
