On March 1, 2007 the FDA updated the recall of Peter Pan Peanut Butter products manufactured at a Sylvester, GA ConAgra Foods plant to include toppings for ice cream sold at Sonic outlets and Carvel stores nationwide, as well as in J. Hungerford Smith dessert toppings used by restaurants and other retailers across the country. The bulk peanut butter used in these custom products has been linked to the nationwide outbreak of Salmonella Tennessee which should be considered serious and ongoing.

Sonic outlets used Sonic Ready-To-Use Peanut Butter Topping in 6-lb. 10.5-oz. cans to make the following products:

• Sonic Peanut Butter Shakes
• Sonic Peanut Butter Fudge Shakes
• SonicPeanut Butter Sundaes
• SonicPeanut Butter Fudge Sundaes
• Other customized products containing peanut butter, including peanut butter flavored ice cream used in ice cream cakes.

These recalled Sonic peanut butter toppings are no longer being sold, but it is possible consumers may still have the products in their homes. Consumers who have any of the above products should avoid eating them. If you are not sure if the product you purchased contains the recalled peanut butter topping, contact the store where the product was purchased.
