General Information
Myocardial ischemia is caused by a temporary lack of oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle. It can be triggered by physical exertion, emotional stress, extreme temperature exposure, heavy meals, or smoking.
Types of Myocardial ischemia
Stable myocardial ischemia is the most common type and occurs when the heart is worker harder than normal. There is usually a regular pattern to stable myocardial ischemia which makes it predictable. The pain usually goes away with a few minute of rest or of taking the myocardial ischemia medicine.
Unstable myocardial ischemia is usually an indication that a heart attack could occur soon. It is a dangerous condition that requires immediate emergency treatment.
Variant myocardial ischemia is a rare condition and usually occurs when resting. The most severe pain of this condition usually occurs between midnight and early morning. Variant myoscardial ischemia can usually be handled with medication.
