Virtus Plus II pacemaker

Guidant Corporation warned physicians on July 18, 2005, that replacements might be needed for nine of their pacemaker models manufactured between 1997 and 2000, including the Virtus Plus® II. A sealing component in the devices degraded in a reported 69 cases, resulting in higher-than-normal moisture levels inside the devices leading to malfunction.

Several patients have lost consciousness or developed possible heart failure as a result of the pacemaker malfunction.
