Medical Description

Calcium hydroxide poisoning is caused by an overexposure of the chemical calcium hydroxide. Calcium hydroxide can be found in limewater, slaked lime, cement and many industrial solvents and cleaners.

Symptoms

• breathing difficulty
• throat swelling
• severe throat pain
• severe pain or burning in nose, eyes, ears, lips or tongue
• loss of vision
• severe abdominal pain
• vomiting
• burns in the esophagus
• vomiting blood
• blood in the stool
• low blood pressure
• too much or too little acid in the blood
• skin irritation
• skin burn
• holes in the skin or underlying tissues
