On May 16, 2007, NBTY, Inc. announced a recall of Shark Cartilage Capsules after it was discovered they could be contaminated with Salmonella, a bacteria that could cause serious personal injury or even death.

The possible Salmonella contamination was discovered during routine testing of the shark cartilage capsules.

In June 2007, Action Labs, Inc. also announced a recall of its Sentinel Shark Cartilage capsules because of the possible Salmonella contamination.
