Reclast
zoledronic acid
Approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on April 16, 2007, Reclast is used to treat adults with Paget’s disease of bone. A patient suffering from Paget’s disease has bones that break down too much and become weaker than normal. Reclast works by attaching to the bone to keep it from breaking down too much. Reclast is also in a class of drugs called bisphosphonates.
Some side effects associated with Reclast are:
- fever and chills
- pain in your muscles, bones or joints
- nausea
- fatigue
- headache
On October 1, 2007, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released its conclusion from a review of bisphosphonate drugs, including Reclast. Despite a New England Journal of Medicine article published in May 2007 that raised safety concerns about the drugs, the FDA said doctors and patients should continue using them.
