On October 29, 2007, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Tasigna, a new drug from Novartis AG, to treat patients with a form of leukemia resistant or intolerant to another blood cancer treatment drug, Gleevec.
Tasigna is an oral treatment for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), one of the four most common types of leukemia. About 4,500 new cases of CML are reported each year.
