On December 3, 2007, Old Navy LLC recalled about 17,200 of its boys’ Performance Fleece-Lined jackets because drawstrings on the waists pose an entrapment hazard. The recalled Old Navy jackets’ drawstrings could become caught in small spaces or doorways, and could entrap a child. The drawstrings are in violation of a February 1996 Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) guideline, which helps prevent children from becoming entangled by drawstrings in garments like jackets and sweatshirts.

Consumers should return the jackets to the store where purchased, or if purchased online, call Old Navy at 1-866-580-9930 for instructions on how to return them. If consumers return a recalled jacket before March 31, 2008, they will also receive a $5 appreciation card. If consumers want to keep the jacket they can remove the drawstring to eliminate the entrapment hazard, and can visit www.oldnavy.com for complete instructions.
