Aricept is used to treat mild to moderate confusion, or dementia, related to Alzheimer’s disease. The drug does not cure Alzheimer’s disease, but it may help improve memory, awareness and the ability to function. Aricept is an enzyme blocker and works by restoring the balance of natural substances in the brain.

As a patient’s body adjusts to the drug, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, tiredness, drowsiness, trouble sleeping, or muscle cramps may occur. These side effects typically last 1-3 weeks and then subside.
