Advil is an over-the-counter, anti-inflammatory pain reliever marketed by Wyeth. Advil contains ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, or NSAID, which controls pain by reducing inflammation. Ibuprofen is commonly prescribed to relieve the pain from inflammatory conditions such as arthritis.

All NSAIDs have the potential for serious and life-threatening side effects, including cardiovascular and gastrointestinal events such as stomach bleeding, heart attack, and sudden cardiac death.
