Dimetapp Cold and chest Congestion contains decongestants, antihistamine, and antitussive as one of its active ingredients. On December 6, 2007, the New England Journal of Medicine published an article that found that children under six taking medications with decongestants are linked to cardiac arrhythmias and other cardiovascular events. Antihistamines in over the counter cough and cold medications were linked to having hallucinations. Antitussive in over the counter cough and cold medications were linked to having depressed levels of consciousness and encephalopathy.
