Outdoor ceiling light fixtures recalled due to potential head injury

Six incidents of fixtures falling already reported

03/21/08

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that Progress Lighting Outdoor Ceiling Light Fixtures were recalled due to a potential head injury hazard. The light fixtures’ mounting brackets are affixed by a weld that can fail, causing the fixtures to fall and hurt anyone nearby.

About 1,000 of the light fixtures, manufactured by Pegtom, of Hong Kong, China, and imported by Progress Lighting, of Greenville, South Carolina, were recalled. The company already has six reports of the light fixtures falling.

Model numbers P5526-20 and P5526-44 of the ceiling-mounted light fixtures are included in the recall. The light fixtures have a solid frame and three flame-shaped lights inside glass panels. Three 60-watt light bulbs are needed for the light fixtures. “Made in/Hecho En/Fabrique Aux China” is written on the package.

The recalled light fixtures were sold at lighting and electrical distributors for $200 from January 2007 through November 2007. CPSC recommends that consumers contact Progress Lighting at 1-866-418-5543 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a free repair. The company can also be reached at www.progresslighting.com.
